This collection of duologues and monologues from Shakespeare's plays has a two-fold purpose: first, to provide material for short presentations and auditions; second, to give students of acting and directing an easy to use but interesting selection for practice work. We have prepared this book with the hope that working with this material will aid in exploring the entertainment values and poetic beauty of Shakespeare's plays. We have tried to suggest how the performer needs to present this material in order to express the essential elements of these works. The staging plans are simply designed. Costumes, sets and properties are also limited to the barest needs. Our concept was to place the emphasis on the actor, but if a more elaborate presentation is needed, these works can be dressed, set and grouped together to make an interesting theatrical presentation.Designed for workshop, classroom or performance. 2 to 10 minute monologues or scenes. 1 to 7 characters.
